The Caregiver Program (Formerly known as Live-In Caregiver)

The Live-in Caregiver program at Britishoxford Institute is mainly designed to prepare enrolled candidates to work as a Live-in Caregiver in Canada. In particular, there is a shortage of Canadians willing to fill the need for live-in caregiver work. Foreign live-in caregivers who have completed a minimum of two years employment in Canada are eligible to apply for permanent residency in Canada.


However, before applying to work as a live-in caregiver in Canada, applicants must complete 6 months of proper training. BritishOXFORD offers a high quality Live-in Caregiver program with qualified teachers, who train and prepare enrolled candidates to meet all the requirements they need to qualify for employment as a Live-in Caregiver in Canada.


Along with the becoming certified as a Live-in Caregiver, students will learn about the Canadian culture, which will help them gain confidence when living with a Canadian family. Lastly, student will also engage in a required practicum which will reinforce what they have learned over the course.


The Live-in Caregiver Program at BritishOXFORD combines classroom sessions with real-life practicum experience to give you hands-on training in the health care field, help you find a job and do it confidently.


During this program, students will learn about chronic conditions, anatomy, physiology and medical terminology. Additionally, courses focus on data collection, monitoring patient health, and how to create a support network for the family members of a special needs patient.


Laboratory sessions will cover specific health care tasks, body mechanics, lifts and transfers, as well as CPR Level “C”, First Aid, Foodsafe, and WHIMIS subjects.


Students also participate in a practicum consisting of an intensive clinical practice, providing the students with hands-on experience in nursing homes, group homes, hospitals and/or long term care facilities.

Upon completion of the Caregiver Program, graduates will be able to:
